Chad’s Minister of Transport, Civil Aviation and National Meteorology, Fatima Goukouni Weddeye, has been appointed chair of the ASECNA Ministerial Committee for a one-year term at the conclusion of the agency’s 75th ministerial session held in N’Djamena.
Since July 28, Chad’s capital has been the hub of statutory meetings of the Agency for Aerial Navigation Safety in Africa and Madagascar (ASECNA). Following the 155th session of the agency’s Board of Directors, the 75th session of the ASECNA Committee of Ministers took place on August 1 in N’Djamena.
Comprising ministers responsible for civil aviation in ASECNA member states, the Committee of Ministers is the organisation’s highest decision-making body.
It ensures compliance with aviation safety standards, sets strategic direction and policy, and appoints the agency’s leadership.
At the close of the session, Chad’s Minister Fatima Goukouni Weddeye was elected to chair the Ministerial Committee for the next 12 months.
In her acceptance speech, she pledged to foster ongoing dialogue, mutual understanding, and consensus-based decisions while respecting the specific contexts and priorities of ASECNA’s 19 member countries.
“Now more than ever, we must address the emerging challenges of the global aviation sector with clarity and determination. These include the rise of digital technologies, growing pressure on air safety, and environmental, technical, and infrastructure-related demands,” said Minister Weddeye.
