Since Tuesday, January 13, unconfirmed reports have circulated of a clash between the Chadian army and elements of the Movement for Peace, Reconstruction and Development (MPRD) rebel group in the sub-prefecture of Korbol, in the southeast of the country.
It is now official. The General Staff of the Armed Forces confirmed, in an official statement published Wednesday, January 14, that defense and security forces were violently engaged in the sub-prefecture of Korbol in the Moyen-Chari province.
However, the army dismissed the possibility of a rebel group, referring instead to “groups of armed bandits.”
According to the statement received by APA, these armed groups had been active in the region for some time, escalating acts of violence, intimidation, and humiliating treatment of civilians.
Faced with this intolerable situation, the military authorities deployed defense and security forces to restore order and ensure the protection of citizens.
It was during this security operation that a clash occurred on January 13, 2026, in the Kono village area, pitting regular forces against these armed elements described as outlaws.
According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces, loyalist forces succeeded in routing the “bandits,” inflicting heavy losses and wounding several of their own.
However, the loyalist forces also paid a heavy price. The statement reports three deaths and ten injuries among the Defense and Security Forces during these clashes.
The wounded, evacuated to the military garrison hospital in Ndjamena were visited on January 14 by the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces, General Abakar Abdelkerim Daoud.
The army reassured the public, stating that the situation is now under control and that search and security operations are continuing in the area to neutralise any remaining threats and prevent a resurgence of violence.
