The Reformist Party (PR) has officially denounced the Presidency of the Republic of Chad for the ongoing and unexplained withholding of a diplomatic passport belonging to its president,
Yacine Abdramane Sakine. As a sitting member of the National Assembly, Sakine followed standard administrative procedures by submitting his travel documents to the National Assembly’s Protocol Directorate on June 27, 2025, for a routine renewal. The party notes that while other members of parliament have since had their documents processed and returned, Sakine’s passport remains confiscated at the Presidency.
In a press statement released on January 5, 2026, the Reformist Party expressed deep indignation, describing the situation as discriminatory and a violation of the principle of equality among elected officials. The party raised sharp questions regarding the government’s motives, asking if the move is a deliberate attempt to restrict Sakine’s freedom of movement or if his status as a full member of parliament is being quietly questioned without cause.
The PR further characterized the incident as a form of political persecution against an elected official, asserting that such actions undermine the rule of law and democratic principles within the country. By publicizing the dispute, the party aims to highlight what it sees as a targeted effort to hinder its leader’s political activities and international engagement.
The statement concluded with an urgent demand for the Presidency to return the document immediately. Despite the tension, the Reformist Party reaffirmed its commitment to operating within the legal and institutional framework of Chad while calling for an end to what it views as an unjustified administrative blockade.
