Meeting in Brazzaville, Prime Minister Anatole Collinet Makosso chaired a cabinet council session that set out guidelines for the management of day-to-day government affairs, following the resignation of the government and pending the formation of a new cabinet.
The prime minister of the Republic of the Congo held the meeting just hours after submitting his resignation along with that of his government to President Denis Sassou Nguesso.
The development comes in an institutional context shaped by the government’s resignation, carried out in accordance with Article 83 of the Constitution of October 25, 2015, following the presidential election held on March 12 and 15, 2026, and the President’s inauguration on April 16, 2026.
During the cabinet council, the outgoing head of government issued clear instructions to members of the departing team on how to handle current affairs. Emphasis was placed on ensuring continuity in public administration, maintaining institutional stability, and guaranteeing the regular functioning of state services.
The council also stressed the need to preserve priority files in order to avoid any disruption in public policy management during the transitional period.
According to a presidential statement, the resignation of the government was accepted by President Denis Sassou Nguesso, who thanked the outgoing cabinet for its work between 2021 and 2026 in implementing the national development programme “Together, Let Us Continue the March.”
In this caretaker phase, the PM commended his team’s commitment and reiterated the importance of ensuring a smooth transition until the appointment of a new government.
