President Ismail Omar Guelleh of Djibouti, on Wednesday, received the Governor of the Banadir region and Mayor of Mogadishu, Hassan Mohamed Houssein Muungaab – who was on an official
visit to Djibouti – at the Presidential Palace, the Djiboutian Presidency announced.
The meeting took place at the conclusion of a three-day official visit to Djibouti by the Somali official, made at the invitation of his Djiboutian counterpart, Said Daoud Mohamed.
During the audience, Mr. Muungaab expressed his gratitude to the Djiboutian authorities and people for the welcome extended to his delegation. He also praised the quality of the discussions and meetings organized during his stay.
The Mayor of Mogadishu notably highlighted Djibouti’s experience in the logistics and port sectors, which he views as a benchmark for Somalia in its reconstruction and economic development process.
The Mayor of Djibouti, Said Daoud Mohamed, also took part in the meeting.
In a statement to the press, he emphasised the opportunities created by the signing – during the visit – of a memorandum of understanding on cooperation between the two capitals.
The agreement provides, in particular, for the development of partnerships and exchanges in the areas of economic development, municipal governance, urban planning, culture, and sports.
The Somali delegation included the President of the International Chamber of Commerce of federal Somalia, Yacin Mohamud Ibar.
The meeting was also attended by Djibouti’s ambassador to Somalia, Colonel Osman Doubad Sougouleh.
