The fight against corruption in the Democratic Republic of Congo is gaining fresh momentum following a high-level strategic meeting held in Kinshasa on March 27, 2026.
At the initiative of the General Inspectorate of Finance (IGF), five key public bodies have joined forces to launch an inter-institutional task force designed to bolster coordination and enhance the efficiency of mechanisms tackling financial crimes. This collective mobilization includes the IGF, the Agency for the Prevention and Fight against Corruption (APLC), the Intelligence Unit for Crimes and Embezzlement (CICM), the Corruption and Professional Ethics Monitoring Observatory (OSCEP), and the National Financial Intelligence Unit (CENAREF).
During the summit, IGF Head of Service Christophe Bitasimwa emphasized that an effective response to deeply entrenched corruption depends strictly on close collaboration between these oversight bodies. The discussions provided a platform to assess existing frameworks, revealing critical bottlenecks such as coordination deficits between agencies, overlapping jurisdictions, and barriers to sharing sensitive information. To remedy these issues, the participating organizations immediately backed the proposal for a task force to improve synergy and amplify the impact of their interventions.
The five institutions have agreed to institutionalize this mechanism to coordinate operations, centralize strategic intelligence, and streamline working methodologies. The objective is to establish a permanent exchange framework capable of delivering rapid and coherent responses to corrupt practices. In the short term, the partners plan to formalize a structured cooperation agreement featuring precise operational rules and a rigorous monitoring system, with Bitasimwa noting the urgency to act without delay.
Furthermore, officials reaffirmed their dedication to fostering a culture of integrity, transparency, and accountability within the public administration, with plans to integrate civil society once the organizational foundations are solidified. This initiative aligns with the vision of President Félix Tshisekedi, who has placed the anti-corruption drive at the heart of his administration. Through this task force, Congolese institutions intend to lay the groundwork for more effective governance and restore citizen trust in the State.
