The Mobile Customs Brigade of Koungheul, under the Kaffrine Customs Subdivision, successfully intercepted nearly one tonne of counterfeit medicines during a major overnight operation between March 25 and 26, 2026.
Acting on a strategic intelligence tip, customs officers conducted a coordinated intervention along the Dimiskha–Missirah and Koucoto–Mbaye-Mbaye corridors, resulting in the seizure of two vehicles transporting the illicit pharmaceutical cargo.
The confiscated haul weighed a total of 916 kilograms and included a wide array of dangerous illicit products, such as antibiotics, analgesics, anti-inflammatory drugs, aphrodisiacs, and various veterinary medicines. With the professional assistance of a local pharmacist from the Senegalese Private Pharmacists’ Union, the total value of the seized goods was estimated to exceed 118 million CFA francs.
This operation highlights the Senegalese Customs Administration’s intensified efforts to dismantle pharmaceutical crime networks. By removing these unregulated products from circulation, authorities aim to mitigate the severe public health risks posed to both the human and animal populations of the region.
