Egyptian President Abdel Fattal El-Sisi is poised to host an international summit for peace and solidarity with the post-war rehabilitation of Gaza, APA has learnt on Sunday.
Thousands have died and close to a million have been displaced in the humanitarian crisis which followed the outbreak of all-out conflict between the Israeli military and Hamas militants.
Egypt has been instrumental in bringing a diplomatic breakthrough, hosting indirect talks which last week brought an end to hostlities.
The international summit titled “Sharm El-Sheikh Peace Summit” on Monday, aims to pernamently silence the guns of war in the Gaza Strip, enhance efforts to bring peace and stability to the Middle East, and usher in a new phase of regional security and stability.
The summit will be co-chaired by President El-Sisi and his US counterpart Donald Trump, with the participation of leaders from more than 20 countries.
It comes in light of Trump’s vision for achieving peace in the region and his relentless efforts to end conflicts around the world, said a statement from its organisers.
Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi last Thursday announced a historic ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas in Gaza which had been the apocalyptic scene of an Israeli mlitary invasion which had lasted for two years.
The agreement, reached in last week’s Sharm El-Sheikh talks, officially ends two years of intense conflict in the region.
The deal is based on a peace plan initially proposed by Trump was facilitated through joint diplomatic efforts by Egypt, Qatar, and the United States.
Officials involved hailed the agreement as a triumph of the will for peace, emphasising that it not only halts hostilities but also opens up a path toward long-term stability, justice, and opportunities for reconstruction and reconciliation for the region’s populations.
