The Kremlin is offering to strengthen strategic cooperation with Cairo around a regional logistics hub dedicated to grains and energy.
The meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty on April 2 in Moscow marks a new stage in strengthening bilateral relations. According to a Kremlin statement, the Russian leader discussed the creation of a grain and energy hub in Egypt, alongside existing projects such as the Al-Dabaa nuclear power plant and the Russian industrial zone in the Suez Canal region.
This initiative is part of a dynamic of economic and strategic cooperation between the two countries, reinforced by recent exchanges between Vladimir Putin and President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi.
This proposal extends a series of major projects already underway, illustrating the growing strength of the economic partnership.
Vladimir Putin indicated that more than ten major Russian companies have expressed interest in investing in the Russian industrial zone in Egypt, highlighting the industrial and logistical dimension of this cooperation. The creation of a hub dedicated to grains and energy would strengthen the country’s position as a regional platform at the interface between Africa, the Middle East, and international markets.
This project also has a strategic dimension in a context marked by tensions in agricultural and energy markets. The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that Cairo invited Moscow to participate in the launch of a grain logistics center, while welcoming the ongoing cooperation in importing wheat, cereals, and oils from Russia.
This approach aims to secure food supplies and strengthen storage and redistribution capacities on a regional scale.
Beyond economic considerations, the discussions also addressed regional geopolitical balances. The Egyptian Foreign Minister reaffirmed his country’s commitment to diplomatic solutions to contain
tensions in the Middle East, highlighting the risks to supply chains, food security, and energy stability.
Moscow emphasised Egypt’s central role as a key player in the region.
