Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi met with Sudanese Prime Minister Kamel Idris on Thursday, February 26, to discuss the High-Level Commission on Water Issues, according to a statement from the Presidency.
Co-chaired by the prime ministers of both countries, the commission is an important framework for harmonizing Egyptian and Sudanese positions and safeguarding their interests and rights.
This is a key body managing the Nile’s resources, particularly under the 1959 agreement that allocates water between the two countries, and plays a crucial role in coordinating the management of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD).
During this meeting, held in the presence of official delegations from both countries, President Al-Sisi reaffirmed Egypt’s unwavering support for Sudan’s stability and territorial integrity.
Al-Sisi highlighted Egypt’s efforts at the regional and international levels to end the war and alleviate the suffering of the Sudanese people according to the same source.
For his part, the Sudanese Prime Minister expressed his deep gratitude for Egypt’s support to his country in various fields.
The two sides also discussed the evolving regional situation and
emphasized the importance of continued coordination on all issues of common interest, according to the statement.
