The first cross-border bus transportation service has officially been launched between the Kenyan and Ethiopian capitals, APA can report on Friday.
The ground service was launched this week by Abyssinia Luxury Coach, a transport company operating in the east African region. the company’s director Michael James Macchio, confirmed to local media.
Macchio said the launch introduces a direct bus connection between the two capital cities, filling a service gap left by previous operators.
The Ethiopian Ministry of Transport and Logistics in a statement disclosed on Thursday that it was not aware of the launch of bus public transport between Nairobi and Addis Ababa.
Citing the launch of the ground transportation by Abyssinia Luxury Coach, the ministry said it was done without its knowledge.
The ministry announced that while there was a national plan to start the service next Ethiopian fiscal year (2025/2026) fiscal year to create a connection between the two countries, the process requires a cooperation agreement, joint tariff setting, and other diplomatic issues between the two countries.
Prior to Abyssinia’s entry, Royal Allied, which was established four years ago, offered routes between Nairobi, Moyale, and Mombasa—but did not extend service beyond Moyale into Ethiopia.
