A collapse at an artisanal gold mine in Kintinian, approximately 25 kilometers from Siguiri in northeastern Guinea, has left at least one person dead and several others injured, according to local sources.
The incident occurred at the “Barrière” artisanal mine, where a large number of gold panners were at work when the landslide struck. Several workers, along with motorised tricycles used in the mining operation, were buried under the debris.
Witnesses on the ground said the collapse happened without warning while several workers were inside the shaft. One survivor, Souleymane Keïta, recounted that a loud noise preceded the slide, triggering panic among the miners. Some managed to escape, while others remain trapped beneath the rubble.
According to Brema Camara, president of the Fatoya 1 district, the provisional toll stands at one confirmed dead and five injured. However, several more people may still be buried under the debris. He cautioned that information remains incomplete and that search operations are ongoing to establish the full number of victims.
Several tricycles used to transport mining materials were also swallowed by the collapse. Heavy machinery has been deployed on site to support rescue operations and attempt to locate any survivors still buried beneath the rubble.
