The French Consulate General in Ouagadougou has announced a temporary suspension of some of its services to the public, effective from late July to mid-August.
The diplomatic mission did not specify the reasons behind this decision in a press release published Tuesday, July 22, 2025, on the official website of the French Embassy in Burkina Faso, though it comes amidst ongoing bilateral tensions.
According to the communicated schedule, the French Administration service will be closed from July 25 to August 5, 2025. Following this, the visa service will remain inaccessible from August 1 to August 11, 2025.
Relations between France and Burkina Faso have notably deteriorated since Captain Ibrahim Traoré seized power. His coup d’état overthrew Lieutenant Colonel Paul-Henri Damiba, who himself had overthrown President Roch Marc Christian Kaboré just eight months prior. In the wake of Captain Traoré’s ascension, military cooperation agreements with Paris were subsequently denounced by the Burkinabe authorities.
