Gabonese President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema has expressed his condolences following the tragic death of international footballer Aaron Boupendza in Hangzhou, China.
President Nguema conveyed his “deep sadness” on Wednesday morning upon learning of the passing of the Gabon Panthers’ center forward. “It is with immense sadness that I learned of the tragic passing of Aaron Boupendza, a talented center forward who brought honor to Gabonese football. I offer my sincere condolences to his family and loved ones. May his memory inspire our youth and may God bless his soul,” the President stated in a social media message.
Boupendza, 28, a former CF Mounana and Girondins de Bordeaux player, was playing for Zhejiang FC in the Chinese Super League. Initial reports from local media indicate he fell to his death from the 11th floor of his residence in Hangzhou. An investigation into the incident has been launched.
Aaron Boupendza earned 35 caps and scored 8 goals for the Gabonese national team.
