Israeli humanitarian organisation NATAN Worldwide Disaster Relief has deployed an emergency medical delegation to Mozambique as catastrophic flooding continues to devastate the country’s southern and central regions, affecting more than 800,000 people and displacing over 100,000.
The organisation said its multidisciplinary team will operate mobile clinics in remote areas and establish care centres in displacement camps to deliver urgent medical and psychosocial support.
“Providing reliable, professional healthcare in the immediate aftermath gives people dignity, reassurance and the confidence that recovery is possible,” NATAN chief executive Alice Miller said.
Mozambique has been battling weeks of intense flooding after torrential rains overwhelmed rivers, destroyed roads and bridges, and cut off entire communities.
Authorities have issued a nationwide red alert, warning that the death toll could rise as more heavy rains are forecast.
The crisis follows a pattern of severe weather events that have repeatedly battered Mozambique, one of the world’s most climate‑vulnerable countries.
In 2019, NATAN deployed a similar mission after Cyclone Idai, reaching isolated villages by helicopter and leading mental‑health interventions in displacement camps.
