The Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) achieved a key operational milestone in domestic logistics with the formal launch of a locally produced Meal Ready-to-Eat (MRE) combat ration designed to sustain troops during field deployments and combat operations.
Unveiled during the 74th Board of Directors meeting of the Kenya Ordnance Factories Corporation (KOFC) in Eldoret, the initiative forms part of a strategic drive to build indigenous defence manufacturing capacity, secure military supply lines, and reduce reliance on foreign logistical imports.
Chaired by the Vice Chief of the Defence Forces (VCDF), Lieutenant General John Omenda, the board session highlighted KOFC’s expanding role in developing local technical capabilities and supporting troop welfare. Alongside the introduction of the MRE rations, Lieutenant General Omenda commissioned a new institutional transport fleet for KOFC personnel to optimize daily operational efficiency. Military leadership underscored that integrating domestic food processing, industrial innovation, and staff support services remains vital to ensuring the KDF maintains long-term operational readiness and national security self-reliance.
