The Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) have reaffirmed their institutional commitment to advancing military veterans’ welfare, streamlining benefit delivery, and leveraging retired military personnel for national development.
During a high-level strategic engagement at Defence Headquarters in Nairobi, Chief of the Defence Forces General Charles Kahariri formally received Major General (Rtd) William Shume, the newly appointed Chairperson of the Advisory Committee on Military Veterans, who succeeds Ambassador Major General (Rtd) Lucas Tumbo.
Accompanied by Brigadier Moses Leriari, Director of Military Veterans, the leadership discussions focused on strengthening operational synergy between the Advisory Committee and the Directorate of Military Veterans (DMV). General Kahariri directed that all veteran administrative matters, benefit processing, and family welfare programs be funneled exclusively through established military service welfare offices and the DMV to enhance accountability and speed up grievance resolution.
Emphasizing that retired service members represent a critical national reserve of leadership, discipline, and technical expertise, the military command called for expanded registration drives and comprehensive sensitization programs to ensure seamless societal reintegration while preserving institutional values and dignity for former personnel and their dependents across Kenya.
