Libya and Mali intend to deepen their cooperation in the tourism and traditional industries sectors.
The Libyan Minister of Tourism and Traditional Industries in the Government of National Accord (GNA), Nasreddine Al-Fazzani, met with his Malian counterpart, Mamou Daffé, Minister of Handicrafts, Culture, Hospitality, and Tourism, to discuss ways to strengthen bilateral relations in these areas.
The meeting took place on the sidelines of the 12th Conference of Ministers of the African Organization for the Development and Promotion of Handicrafts (AODPA), held in Bamako from July 2 to 4, according to Libyan authorities.
The talks focused on establishing coordination mechanisms, exchanging expertise, and developing joint programs to support the tourism and handicrafts sectors in both countries. The two ministers also emphasised the need to broaden areas of cooperation to foster the exchange of experiences and strengthen institutional capacities.
The Malian minister welcomed Libya’s participation in the ministerial conference, highlighting Tripoli’s active role within the organisation.
He reaffirmed Bamako’s commitment to continuing coordination with Libyan authorities to defend common interests and consolidate bilateral relations in the cultural, tourism, and handicrafts sectors.
Libya was represented at this regional meeting by Nasreddine Al-Fazzani, accompanied by, among others, the Secretary General of the African Handicrafts Development and Promotion Organization, Fidèle Ilboudo, as well as ministers and representatives of member states.
The conference concluded with the adoption and signing of the revised statutes and internal regulations of the organization, documents prepared following the work undertaken at the previous ministerial conference held in Brazzaville.
Prior to the ministerial meeting, experts from member states met on July 1st and 2nd to examine technical and legal proposals aimed at modernising the organisation’s regulatory framework.
The OADPA works to promote handicrafts in Africa by supporting national policies, strengthening artisans’ skills, preserving traditional know-how, encouraging innovation, and developing regional
cooperation, with the objective of supporting economic growth, job creation, and the enhancement of African cultural heritage.
