The President of the Libyan Presidential Council, Mohamed Menfi, received a delegation from the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs on Monday in Tripoli.
Led by Monika Caroline Schmutz Kirgöz, Head of the North Africa and Middle East Division, the meeting served as a platform for consultations on several bilateral issues of mutual interest. The Swiss delegation also included the Ambassador of Switzerland to Libya, Josef Philipp Renggli, alongside several other officials from the Swiss foreign ministry.
According to the Libyan Presidential Council, the discussions centered heavily on human rights, irregular migration, and ongoing efforts to advance the national reconciliation process, which Libyan authorities view as a critical pillar for the country’s long-term stabilization. Mohamed Menfi emphasized the importance of strengthening cooperation between Libya and its European partners on security and migration issues, specifically calling for improved coordination in dismantling human trafficking networks and tightening border controls.
The Libyan leader also urged a greater international commitment toward the country’s development and institutional capacity-building, noting that economic and social stability serve as vital levers to ease migratory pressures and reinforce regional security. During the meeting, Menfi reaffirmed that national reconciliation remains a strategic priority for Libyan authorities, highlighting the role of the High National Reconciliation Committee, which operates under the supervision of the Presidential Council, in its mission to bridge deep divisions across Libya’s political and social landscapes. This visit is part of regular exchanges between Switzerland and Libya focused tightly on stabilization, governance, and the management of migratory flows in the Mediterranean.
