Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Tuesday called on Mauritian President Dharambeer Gokhool, at the State House in Port Louis where both leaders vowed to strengthen relations.
They exchanged views on deepening the special and close bilateral ties between India and Mauritius, recalling the shared history between the two countries and the existence of strong people-to-people linkages.
The Indian PM described it as an honour to attend the national day celebrations in Mauritius as chief guest for the second time.
In a special gesture Prime Minister handed over Overseas Citizenship of India (OCI) cards to President Gokhool and First Lady Vrinda Gokhool.
The PM also visited the Ayurveda Garden in the State House, established in collaboration with the government of India.
Prime Minister Modi described Mauritius as an important partner for India in advancing the benefits of traditional medicine including Ayurveda.
A state dinner was held at State House in honour of the visiting Indian leader.
