The Moroccan group Akdital has taken another step in its regional expansion with the acquisition of the Tunisian operator Taoufik Hospitals Group, strengthening its position in North Africa.
Akdital announced that it has signed a memorandum of understanding for the acquisition of 100 percent of the share capital of Taoufik Hospitals Group (THG), for a total amount of $90 million.
The transaction remains subject to customary regulatory approvals, Akdital stated in a statement.
Founded in 2014, Taoufik Hospitals Group operates in Tunisia through four private hospitals totaling more than 600 beds, including 100 dedicated to intensive care.
The group employs more than 1,600 people and has a network of over 500 partner physicians. Its hospitals are positioned as centres of excellence, covering oncology, neurology, interventional cardiology, traumatology, functional rehabilitation, and a comprehensive multidisciplinary offering, serving both local and international patients.
Financially, THG recorded consolidated revenue exceeding $45 million in 2024. The group boasts an EBITDA margin of 35 percent and a net margin of 13 percent, with growth prospects of approximately 15 percent in 2025, driven in particular by the expansion of its oncology activity.
The Taoufik Hospitals Group model is based on high standards of quality and safety of care, attested by several international and local accreditations, including those from the HAS (French National
Authority for Health) and INEAS (National Institute for Health and Social Action).
This approach aligns with Akdital’s strategy, which focuses on structuring specialized hospital hubs and enhancing the quality of medical services.
The acquisition aims to create synergies between the two groups, both in terms of medical expertise and organisational models. It should also foster the exchange of skills, the mobility of healthcare
professionals, and talent development, while paving the way for strengthened medical cooperation at the regional level.
Following its initial establishments in the Middle East, particularly in Saudi Arabia, this transaction marks Akdital’s first presence in North Africa outside of Morocco.
The group is thus affirming its ambition to build a regional growth platform, based on medical
excellence and skills development, in a context of increasing private healthcare on the African continent.
