King Mohammed VI on Friday called for the mobilisation of all hs kingdom’s institutions to consolidate the model of an emerging Morocco founded on social and territorial justice, as he opened the final legislative year of the current parliamentary term.
In his address before members of both Houses of Parliament, the Moroccan Sovereign urged lawmakers to “work with seriousness and responsibility” to complete legislative reforms and remain attuned to citizens’ concerns. He also praised Parliament’s efforts in scrutinising government action and in parliamentary diplomacy, while calling for improved coordination with official diplomatic channels.
The king reaffirmed that the major national projects and social programmes should not be seen as mutually exclusive, stressing that their common goal is the country’s development and the improvement of citizens’ living conditions.
He insisted on the need for increased communication surrounding public reforms and the effective guidance of citizens, a mission incumbent upon parliamentarians, political parties, media, and civil society actors alike.
At the core of his speech, the Sovereign highlighted social justice and the reduction of territorial inequalities, asserting that this is a sustainable strategic orientation rather than a cyclical priority. He called for a profound shift in mindsets and working methods, based on a culture of results and the use of digital technologies in managing territorial development.
The king set three major priorities: the integrated development of mountainous areas and oases, the sustainable development of the national coastline within the framework of a job-creating maritime economy, and the expansion of the emerging rural centres programme to bring services closer to citizens in rural areas.
Concluding his speech, the sovereign urged the government and parliament, spanning both the majority and the opposition, to place the higher interests of the nation above all other considerations, by demonstrating integrity, dedication, and self-sacrifice in the service of Morocco.
