General Mohammed Berrid, Inspector General of the FAR and Commander of the Southern Zone, on Wednesday received Lieutenant General Cheryl Pearce, the United Nations Acting Military Adviser, who is on an official visit to Morocco.
This was on the instruction of King Mohammed VI, Supreme Commander and Chief of General Staff of the Royal Armed Forces (FAR).
According to a statement from the FAR General Staff, the meeting provided an opportunity for in-depth discussions on Morocco’s contribution to United Nations peacekeeping operations.
The UN official expressed her appreciation to King Mohammed VI for Morocco’s continued commitment and engagement in UN missions, particularly in the Central African Republic and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
General Pearce also highlighted the high level of professionalism and strong international reputation of the Royal Armed Forces, praising the resilience, discipline and operational effectiveness demonstrated by Moroccan contingents in carrying out complex humanitarian and security missions in various theatres of operation.
Morocco is a longstanding and major contributor to UN peacekeeping operations, notably in the Democratic Republic of the Congo through the MONUSCO mission, where thousands of Moroccan troops are deployed to protect civilians and help stabilise the country—a role widely commended by the United Nations and Congolese authorities.
