In a significant move to bolster Arab-Arab relations, Morocco and Jordan have formalized a new era of legislative partnership. Nasser Bourita,
Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, welcomed a high-level Jordanian delegation led by Mazen Turki El Qadi, Speaker of the Jordanian House of Representatives, for strategic talks in Rabat on January 7, 2026.
The discussions emphasized the deep-rooted historical and fraternal bonds between the two kingdoms, championed by King Mohammed VI and King Abdullah II. Both sides highlighted a strong convergence of views on regional stability, particularly regarding the Palestinian cause and the security of the Arab world. During the meetings, Speaker El Qadi reaffirmed Jordan’s unwavering support for Morocco’s territorial integrity, specifically backing the Autonomy Initiative as the practical solution for the Western Sahara issue.
The visit culminated in the signing of a comprehensive Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the respective Houses of Representatives. This agreement establishes a structured framework for the exchange of legislative expertise and best practices in parliamentary oversight. Key components of the pact include joint capacity-building programs for lawmakers, the revitalization of parliamentary friendship groups, and closer coordination within international and regional parliamentary forums.
Beyond legislative affairs, the talks touched on enhancing economic and investment cooperation, positioning both nations as models of moderation and institutional stability in the Middle East and North Africa. This strategic alignment aims to create a unified voice in addressing the shared political and economic challenges facing the region today.
