US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has paid tribute to the leadership of King Mohammed VI in promoting peace and security at the regional and international levels.
In a statement released Monday in Washington, following a telephone conversation with Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita, Marco Rubio highlighted the importance of the strategic partnership between Morocco and the United States, emphasising the key role of the Sovereign in maintaining peace and security in the world.
The discussions focused in particular on the ceasefire agreement in Gaza, the release of hostages as well as Morocco’s role in delivering humanitarian aid to the Palestinians, said the statement from the spokesperson for the US State Department.
The head of American diplomacy also expressed the US’s willingness to deepen its cooperation with Morocco to promote common interests and resolve conflicts, particularly within the framework of the Abraham Accords.
The meeting served to reaffirm the importance of strengthening trade and investment between the two nations, for the benefit of both peoples, the State Department concluded.
The US Senate last week unanimously confirmed Marco Rubio as Secretary of State, marking President Donald Trump’s first cabinet appointment during his second term.
Rubio, 53, a Republican senator from Florida, becomes the first Latino to hold the position.
His confirmation was welcomed by members of both parties, reflecting broad
bipartisan support.
