The Moroccan Government has announced that the next elections for the House of Representatives will be held on September 23, 2026, with the official campaign period running from September 10 to 22.
The government spokesperson, Mustapha Baitas, announced on Thursday
that the decision came as part of the adoption of a draft decree submitted by the Interior Ministry, governing the organization of the vote and the various stages of the electoral process.
In remarks delivered at the government’s weekly press briefing, Baitas outlined that the regulatory text sets both the voting date and the administrative procedures for submitting candidacies.
Nomination of applications will be filed either through a dedicated digital platform or directly with the relevant government authority responsible for receiving applications and that the decree also establishes the official
candidacy submission windows and the conditions governing elections.
The official campaign period will open at the start of Thursday, September 10, 2026 and close at midnight on Tuesday, September 22 — the eve of polling day.
He added that the authorities also released preliminary data on the electorate and that the Interior Minister Abdelouafi Laftit disclosed that the total number of provisionally registered voters stands at approximately 16.5 million.
According to figures presented before the Chamber of Advisors during an oral questions session, men account for 54% of the registered electorates, compared to 46% of women.
The geographic breakdown of the electorates reveals a slight urban majority. Interior Ministry data shows that 55% of registered voters reside in urban areas, while 45% live in rural communities.
The figures reflect the demographic makeup of Morocco’s electorate in a country where urban dynamics are playing an increasingly prominent role in political participation and electoral competition.
