The OCP Group is taking a new step in its sustainable growth strategy with the launch of the “Mzinda-Meskala” (SP2M) program, a structuring project that aims to profoundly transform phosphate and fertilizer production by 2028.
Driven by a vision combining innovation, environmental performance, and local roots, the “Mzinda-Meskala” (SP2M) program is part of the OCP Group’s green transition dynamic. Launched in March 2023, the program is based on two major industrial hubs, located in Mzinda (Youssoufia province) and Meskala (Essaouira province), interconnected via a logistics corridor linking mining sites, chemical plants, and the port of Safi.
The Mzinda site plans to process up to six million tonnes of phosphate rock by the end of 2027, thanks to modern facilities including an acid production unit, a power plant, and a sulfur fusion platform.
Powered by 100 percent renewable energy – including 440 megawatts solar capacity – the complex will also benefit from a desalination plant in Safi, capable of producing 200 million m³ of water by 2027.
On the production side, SP2M is targeting an increase of 9 million tonnes of fertilizer by 2028, with a particular focus on customised solutions such as TSP+ (enriched superphosphate fertilizer).
The entire project relies on Industry 5.0 technologies: advanced automation, artificial intelligence, autonomous machines, and remote monitoring via an integrated control center (IROC), ensuring optimal efficiency, increased flexibility, and enhanced traceability.
From a socio-economic perspective, SP2M is expected to generate between 14,000 and 20,000 jobs during the construction phase, involving some 40 Moroccan companies.
The program also includes the development of industrial parks, training centers in collaboration with the Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P) and InnovX, as well as community projects in the fields of agriculture, crafts, and education.
