Four African heads of state are participating in the African Water Forum, which opened Wednesday in Ndjamena.
The forum, co-organized by the Chadian government and the World Bank Group, aims to accelerate initiatives promoting access to water across the continent.
Gabonese President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema was the first to arrive in the Chadian capital on the evening of July 14, followed by his Mauritanian counterpart, Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani.
The two leaders were welcomed by Chadian Prime Minister Allamaye Halina.
On the morning of July 15, Beninese President Romuald Wadagni and the President of the Democratic Republic of Congo, Felix Tshisekedi, also arrived in Ndjamena.
This is the first official visit of the Beninese head of state to Chad.
Held under the theme “From Vision to Action,” this meeting takes place on July 15 and 16. It is co-organized by the Chadian government and the World Bank Group.
The African Water Forum is the first continental step in Water Forward, a global initiative launched on April 15, 2026, in Washington, D.C., by World Bank Group President Ajay Banga, with the goal of helping to secure access to water for one billion people by 2030.
