The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has alerted the public to the temporary dip in gas supply and possible moderation in electricity generation as its joint venture partner, Seplat Energy Plc, shuts down key gas production facilities for routine maintenance.
According to the statement on Thursday by its Chief Corporate Communications Officer, Andy Odeh, the NNPCL said that the maintenance would run from February 12 to February 15, 2026.
It noted that the exercise is part of mandatory industry-standard safety and asset integrity procedures designed to ensure the long-term reliability and efficiency of critical gas infrastructure.
“The public is hereby informed that Seplat Energy Plc, a Joint Venture partner of the NNPCL and a key supplier of gas into the NNPC Gas Infrastructure Company Limited pipeline network, has scheduled routine maintenance on its gas production facilities from 12th to 15th February 2026,” the statement said.
The NNPCL explained that during the four-day window, there will be a temporary reduction in gas supply into the NNPCL Gas Infrastructure Company Limited (NGIC) pipeline network, which supplies several thermal power plants and industrial customers nationwide.
“As a result, some power generation companies reliant on this supply may experience reduced gas availability, which could modestly impact electricity generation levels within the timeframe,” Odeh stated.
The company stressed that such maintenance activities are essential to sustain optimal system performance, strengthen operational resilience and minimise the risk of unplanned outages.
To cushion the impact, the NNPCL said it was working closely with Seplat to ensure the maintenance is completed safely and on schedule.
In addition, the NNPC Gas Marketing Limited is engaging alternative gas suppliers to mitigate anticipated supply gaps and maintain network stability.
The NNPCL has assured stakeholders that full gas supply into the NGIC system is expected to resume promptly after the maintenance exercise, enabling affected power generation companies to return to normal operations.
