A total of 1,074 prisoners passed Morocco’s 2026 baccalaureate exams, achieving a 44% success rate – higher than the national average for independent candidates, the prison administration has said.
Incarcerated candidates who sat for the 2026 baccalaureate as independent applicants posted significantly improved results, the General Delegation for Prison Administration and Reintegration (DGAPR) said after the Ministry of National Education released the official outcomes.
According to the DGAPR, 1,074 inmates passed the exam out of a total of 2,466 candidates who sat for it in the various prison facilities across the kingdom, representing a success rate of 44%.
The institution emphasizes that this performance represents a 147% increase in the number of successful candidates compared to the previous year’s regular session.
The results obtained also exceed the national average for independent candidates, which stands at 37.4%.
For the prison administration, this improvement reflects the efforts made in education and academic support within prisons, as well as the candidates’ active participation in their educational journey.
Among those who passed, 409 achieved a grade of “fairly good,” “good,” or “very good,” representing 38.08% of all successful candidates.
The DGAPR believes that these distinctions demonstrate the level achieved by some candidates and illustrate the capacity of educational programmes in prisons to promote academic success despite the constraints of incarceration.
The administration emphasizes that obtaining the baccalaureate is a significant tool for social and professional reintegration.
The diploma notably opens access to higher education or vocational training programmes that can facilitate a return to work after a period of incarceration.
The make-up session will also offer another opportunity to 868 incarcerated candidates, representing 35.2% of all those who took the exams.
The DGAPR urged these candidates to continue their efforts to improve their results in this second session.
The institution also praised the work of educational and administrative staff in prisons, urging them to continue supporting inmates’ access to education and training, which it described as central to Morocco’s reintegration policy.
