Morocco has launched its first-ever National Artificial Intelligence Forum, bringing together government officials, private sector leaders, investment and sovereign funds, startups, academics, civil society actors, international experts, and members of the diaspora.
The inaugural forum officially opened on Tuesday in Rabat under the auspices of King Mohammed VI.
The event, a milestone for Morocco, is being held in the presence of top public and private sector officials, AI experts, and representatives from international organisations.
Organised by the Ministry of Digital Transition and Administrative Reform under the theme “An Efficient and Ethical AI Strategy for Our Society”, the forum seeks to shape a national strategy for sovereign artificial intelligence aligned with the country’s strategic priorities and royal directives.
The program is structured around 13 key pillars where AI is expected to have the most transformative impact for Morocco.
These include public sector reform, education and new pedagogies, sports, healthcare and precision medicine, smart agriculture and fisheries.
Other focus areas include Industry X.0, national security and sovereignty, culture and creativity, media and democracy, international cooperation, governance, trust and ethics, innovation and startups, as well as infrastructure and investment.
The first day is dedicated to sectoral technical sessions and startup demonstrations showcasing innovative AI-powered solutions. The second day will focus on the political and international cooperation dimensions of AI.
The closing ceremony will feature the presentation of key recommendations from the two-day discussions and the signing of several memorandums of understanding with national and international partners.
