During a significant state visit to Bissau, Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye was honored with the prestigious Amílcar Cabral Medal and signed several key cooperation agreements with his Guinea-Bissau counterpart, President Umaro Sissoco Embaló.
President Faye commenced his 48-hour state visit to the Republic of Guinea-Bissau on Monday, following an invitation from President Embaló. Upon his arrival at the presidential palace, the Senegalese head of state was received with full honors and awarded the Amílcar Cabral Medal, the country’s highest distinction. This award recognized his commitment to peace, regional cooperation, and the strengthening of bilateral relations.
The two leaders engaged in a bilateral meeting, followed by a joint press briefing where they reaffirmed the strong historical and fraternal ties between their nations. During the occasion, several cooperation agreements were formally signed, spanning crucial sectors such as culture, cinema, health, education, security, transportation, and trade.
According to the Senegalese presidency, President Faye conveyed his “deep gratitude for the exceptional welcome” he received and reiterated Senegal’s unwavering commitment to supporting Guinea-Bissau’s efforts towards peace and sustainable development.
The visit also included a poignant tribute to the heroes of independence at the Amura Fortress, where both heads of state laid wreaths. The day concluded with a state dinner, held in a spirit of fraternity and shared perspectives on pressing regional issues.
