Waly Ibrahima Seck, the Senegalese music star and son of the late singer Thione Seck, was indicted Wednesday on charges of criminal conspiracy and money laundering, his lawyer told reporters following his appearance before an investigating judge.
The case stems from the sale of a vehicle to Amadou Sall, son of former president Macky Sall. According to the defense, a deposit of 210 million CFA francs was made as part of the transaction, enabling the judge to grant the artist provisional release.
“This deposit should in no way be interpreted as an admission of guilt,” his lawyer stressed, noting that it is a procedure provided for under the criminal code.
The 39-year-old artist, who was abroad when the case first emerged, had previously expressed his willingness to appear before the courts to clarify his situation. The investigation remains ongoing.
Waly Seck, a leading figure in Senegal’s music scene and heir to the Seck legacy, enjoys massive popularity among young audiences.
The case, widely followed on social media, has sparked intense public interest in Senegal, where issues of governance and justice remain under close scrutiny.
