Rabat and Dakar reaffirmed their shared vision on Africa’s major priorities and praised the royal and presidential initiatives promoting development and South–South cooperation.
Senegal on Monday lauded in Rabat King Mohammed VI’s initiatives and his steadfast commitment to Africa’s development, following talks between Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita and Senegalese Minister of African Integration, Foreign Affairs and Senegalese Abroad, Cheikh Niang.
In a joint communiqué issued after the meeting, the two ministers highlighted the vision and leadership of King Mohammed VI and President Bassirou Diomaye Faye in advancing peace, stability, and development across the continent, as well as their shared commitment to promoting a moderate, open, and tolerant Islam. This convergence of views, the statement noted, reflects the strength of the partnership between Rabat and Dakar and their joint determination to deepen South–South cooperation.
The ministers also discussed the Atlantic African States Process, a Moroccan initiative bringing together around twenty coastal nations, and underscored the significant potential for synergy within this strategic area. They stressed the importance of enhanced coordination to make the African Atlantic façade a zone of co-emergence, stability, and shared growth, particularly in energy, food security, health, environmental protection, and logistics connectivity.
The communiqué further welcomed progress on the Nigeria–Morocco Atlantic Gas Pipeline, describing it as a powerful symbol of South–South cooperation and of Africa’s drive toward energy integration. It noted that Senegal will play a key role in the project’s first phase, covering the section linking Senegal to Mauritania, a critical stage before the pipeline continues northward.
Both ministers also voiced support for the Royal Initiative to grant the Sahel’s landlocked countries access to the Atlantic, a flagship project aimed at regional integration and the economic opening-up of several African nations. They agreed to continue consultations with the countries concerned in a spirit of inclusive and mutually beneficial partnership.
Finally, Rabat and Dakar welcomed the alignment of their diplomatic positions on key regional and international issues, reiterating their commitment to the peaceful resolution of conflicts, respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity, and the promotion of pragmatic and solidarity-based South–South cooperation, in line with the guidance of their respective leaders.
