Senegalese industrial turnover rose by 10.8% year-on-year in the second quarter of 2026, driven notably by the performance of the manufacturing and extractive industries, according to the National Agency for Statistics and Demography (ANSD).
Senegalese industrial turnover increased by 10.8% in the second quarter of 2026, compared to the same period in 2025, the ANSD reported in its analysis of the Industrial Turnover Index (ICAI).
This trend was driven by revenue growth in manufacturing (+13.3%), extractive industries (+7.0%), and electricity, gas, and water activities (+6.5%). Environmental industries also recorded a 1.3%
increase.
For the first half of 2026 as a whole, industrial turnover showed a 7.1% increase compared to the first six months of 2025.
Excluding cotton ginning and hydrocarbon extraction, the growth rate stood at 8.0% for the second quarter and 6.3% for the first half of the year.
Within the manufacturing sector, the 13.3% rise was primarily linked to revenue growth in agri-food activities (+22.2%), mineral materials (+16.9%), chemical and pharmaceutical products (+10.0%), and paper and cardboard (+9.6%).
Conversely, metallurgy and foundry activities declined by 15.6%, while refining and coking operations recorded a 5.3% drop.
Turnover in the extractive industries rose by 7.0%, driven notably by growth in hydrocarbon extraction (+26.2%) and metal ore extraction (+8.1%).
However, other extractive activities fell by 28.7%. In the electricity, gas, and water sector, turnover rose by 6.5%, with respective increases of 6.8% for electricity and gas and 6.0% for water.
Cotton ginning – analysed separately from the ICAI – recorded a 54.0% increase in turnover for the second quarter of 2026, driven primarily by higher cotton sales. Over the first half of the year, the increase stood at 8.9%.
The ANSD notes that the results are based on a response rate of 94.2%.
The ICAI, which uses a base of 100 for 2016, measures trends in sales of goods and services within industrial activities.
