Cheikh Anta Diop University of Dakar (UCAD) continues to solidify its status as a leading academic institution in West Africa by winning a pretigious regional award.
The Faculty of Legal and Political Sciences (FSJP) won the 2nd edition of the Ecowas Court of Justice Moot Court Competition, held in Dakar from May 20 to 22, 2026.
The UCAD team, composed of Fatoumata Gano, a Master’s student, and Pape Mor Mboup, a third-year undergraduate student in public law, distinguished itself throughout the competition.
After eliminating Benin in the semi-finals, the FSJP representatives triumphed over Togo in the final, thus securing the trophy in this prestigious regional competition.
According to the UCAD Communications Department, this achievement is the result of rigorous work conducted under the supervision of Dr. Moustapha Fall, a lecturer and researcher in public law, who guided the students in their preparation. The competition was also marked by the individual distinction awarded to Fatoumata Gano, who was chosen as the best advocate.
This recognition rewards her oratorical talent, her mastery of legal issues, and her academic commitment.
The Faculty of Law and Political Science (FSJP) at Cheikh Anta Diop University (UCAD) also played a central role in organising the event by hosting the preliminary rounds at the Institute of Legal
Professions.
This edition brought together several law faculties from the French-speaking member states of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), thus contributing to strengthening academic exchanges and promoting legal excellence in the sub-region.
Through this victory, UCAD reaffirms its commitment to training a new generation of lawyers capable of meeting the challenges of regional integration, justice, and the defense of human rights.
The Rector of UCAD, Professor Alioune Badara Kandji, congratulated Professor Aminata Cissé Niang, Dean of the Faculty of Law and Political Science (FSJP), the faculty, and the students on this prestigious award, which honours the university and, more broadly, Senegalese academic excellence on the international stage.
“Today’s students, tomorrow’s lawyers,” the university proudly proclaimed, proud of this new recognition.
