Senegal’s Minister of African Integration and Foreign Affairs, Yacine Fall, began a diplomatic mission to neighbouring Mauritania on Monday.
The official visit is aimed at strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries.
Upon her arrival in Nouakchott earlier in the day, Minister Fall was received by her Mauritanian counterpart, Dr. Mohamed Salem Ould Merzoug, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation, and Mauritanians Abroad.
The visit comes at a time of notable developments in Senegalese-Mauritanian relations, following the recent election of Mauritanian Sidi Ould Tah as President of the African Development Bank (AfDB).
Senegal’s Amadou Hott had also been a contender for the position.
Talks between the two ministers are focused on the signing of cooperation agreements covering strategic sectors of shared interest.
The diplomatic engagement reflects a renewed momentum in bilateral ties, further underscored by the recent joint visit of the Senegalese and Mauritanian heads of state to the Grand Tortue Ahmeyim (GTA) gas project, a key offshore resource jointly developed by both countries.
