The Seychelles News Agency (SNA) officially resumed operations on Monday, January 26, 2026, ending a period of inactivity that began in December 2024.
The reopening is a fulfillment of a key pledge by President Dr. Patrick Herminie, who committed to restoring the national news service within the first 100 days of his administration to enhance governmental transparency and public access to information.
The relaunch was marked by the inauguration of a modernized digital platform by Vice President Sebastien Pillay, who oversees the information portfolio. The revamped website represents a significant step in re-establishing the agency’s digital presence and its connection to the international community. As part of the restructuring process, the Department of Information has appointed experienced journalists Betymie Bonnelame and Rassin Vannier to lead the agency for a six-month transitional period.
During this initial phase, the new leadership will focus on rebuilding the SNA’s institutional capacity, refining its governance structures, and standardizing editorial operations. Originally established in April 2014, the SNA aims to provide professional, freely accessible news that adheres to the principles of public interest. By restoring this vital media architecture, the government seeks to ensure a consistent and reliable flow of information regarding the archipelago’s political, economic, and cultural developments.
