President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi on Monday morning cast his vote as Egypt holds senate elections, which end on Tuesday.
The Egyptian leader voted at his polling station in the Martyr Mustafa Yousry Emeira School in Heliopolis where large crowds had assembled to cast their ballot.
Egyptians are voting to fill 200 of the 300 seats that make up the upper chamber of Egypt’s parliament.
President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi is mandated to directly appoint other members of parliament.
100 elective seats are reserved for individual candidates.
Another 100 are to be filled with lawmakers by the winning political parties based on a closed list vote.
The pro-Sisi Mostaqbal Watan (Nation’s Future) party which commands the majority in parliament and leads a coalition of 13 parties, is expected to dominate the vote.
The other party in contention are the newly formed National Front party, led by former minister Essam al-Gazzar.
