South African investigative journalist Micah Reddy went missing at the weekend while covering a story in Djibouti, his family and the Committee for the Protection of Journalists said late Sunday.
Reddy’s brother Nial Reddy said the journalist went missing at about 1pm (1100 GMT) on Saturday while in the Horn of Africa country.
His local fixer, Kooki Mahmoud, is also believed to be missing.
“He hasn’t been heard from in over 24 hours now. He was in Djibouti on a news story unrelated to that country,” the brother said.
He said the family has been in touch with the South African government whom they have requested to ensure that the journalist is returned home safely.
“We trust that the SA government will do everything in its power to get my brother back home.”
The Committee to Protect Journalists on Sunday called on Djiboutian authorities to help locate both men and ensure their safety.
