The Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) has accused ethiopia’s federal army of launching drone strikes on its forces and attacking an unspecified number of fighters.
In a statement issued on Friday, TPLF said the drone attacks on Friday targeted the Milka military camp which is located along the border of Tigray and Afar regions.
TPLF, however, stopped short of revealing causalities and damage caused by the attacks.
It said the attacks demonstrated that the federal government has already violated the 2022 Pretoria Agreement, a cessation of hostilities deal that ended a two-year conflict between the Ethiopian federal government and the TPLF.
The accusation came after Ethiopia’s Afar regional government announced that TPLF forces had crossed its territory and launched attacks on civilians last Wednesday.
The Afar authorities said the TPLF army entered the Afar region, took control of six villages, and bombed civilians with heavy artillery.
The peace and security bureau of the Tigray region, however, rubbished the allegation, saying TPLF forces neither attacked nor took control of any village in neighbouring Afar.
The bureau said the “accusation is entirely baseless with no violation of the Afar–Tigray border, from either side.”
However, it said, there had been “repeated attacks” against Tigray forces by armed groups operating in Afar region.
