The Libyan Government of National Unity (GNU) has strongly denounced the interception of a humanitarian flotilla bound for Gaza, accusing Israel of violating international law and demanding immediate action from the global community.
The GNU stated that Israel bears full responsibility for the safety and well-being of the Libyan nationals detained aboard the vessel Omar Al-Mukhtar. The ship was intercepted while attempting to deliver emergency aid to the besieged Palestinian population as part of the Global Sumud Flotilla.
The Libyan Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed it is “closely monitoring” the situation and called on the international community to urgently intervene to ensure the detainees’ swift release and safe return to Libya.
Separately, the High Council of State strongly condemned the incident as an Israeli “attack” and a “direct affront to national sovereignty.” They labeled the operation a “flagrant violation” of international maritime law and the principles protecting humanitarian missions. The Council urged the United Nations, the Security Council, and humanitarian organizations to document the incident and refer it to the International Criminal Court (ICC) as a potential war crime.
Reaffirming its solidarity with the Palestinian people, Tripoli denounced Israel’s restrictions on aid delivery to Gaza as a form of “collective punishment prohibited under international law,” and called on Arab and Islamic countries to take swift, decisive action to end the blockade.
