In 2025, the United Nations Humanitarian Air Service (UNHAS) in Chad played a critical role in connecting the country’s most isolated and vulnerable regions by transporting 29,711 passengers and 94,000 tonnes of vital freight.
This essential cargo included food, medical equipment, and other humanitarian supplies, according to reports from the World Food Programme (WFP) representation in Chad. By utilizing an optimized fleet, these operations have significantly strengthened food security and improved access to basic services across a nation facing complex humanitarian challenges.
Beyond logistics, these regular connections between major urban centers and remote areas have enabled more effective coordination among various humanitarian actors on the ground. The WFP-UNHAS strategic role ensures the continuity of emergency operations and provides a lifeline to populations most exposed to ongoing crises. Moving forward, the Programme remains committed to maintaining and expanding these services to ensure that no region remains out of reach for life-saving assistance in the coming years.
