Zambia is hosting the inaugural African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Digital Trade and Services Forum, drawing African leaders and key stakeholders to chart the continent’s digital trade future.
The high-profile event, scheduled from May 8–10, has brought together policymakers, industry leaders and innovators to accelerate Africa’s integration into the digital economy.
Held under the theme “Boosting Digital Trade to Accelerate AfCFTA Implementation,” the forum aims to drive economic growth through digital trade, which is rapidly reshaping business connections and competition across Africa.
The AfCFTA plays a pivotal role in this transformation, fostering cross-border e-commerce, mobile payments and cloud-based services.
Zambia’s Ministry of Technology and Science noted that digital trade is no longer an abstract vision but a tangible reality influencing African commerce.
The event has attracted hundreds of participants, including heads of state, cabinet ministers, industry captains, academia and innovators from across Africa and beyond.
Among the dignitaries attending is Botswana’s President Duma Boko, who will undertake an official visit to Lusaka for the forum.
