The city of Agadir has launched a special 4th edition of the International Argan Fair, strategically timed to coincide with the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
The event serves as a continental bridge, blending the promotion of Morocco’s iconic argan ecosystem with a celebration of African heritage and unity.
Officially opened on Sunday, the fair is organized by the National Agency for the Development of Oasis Zones and the Argan Tree (ANDZOA) under the Ministry of Agriculture. It is scheduled to run through January 16, 2026.
The fair is integrated into a larger dual-event space at Prince Crown Square and City Hall Square, which also hosts the 9th edition of National Handicrafts Week. This synergy offers visitors a comprehensive look at both the “liquid gold” of the argan tree and Morocco’s traditional artisanal expertise.
With Agadir serving as a host city for the 2025 AFCON, organizers are leveraging the influx of international fans to foster deeper African cultural exchanges. Theme: “The Argan Tree: Symbol of Resilience and Adaptation, Bridge of African Communication.” Pan-African Participation: More than 20 African nations have their own pavilions, showcasing a shared commitment to sustainable development and environmental preservation. Tourism Integration: The fair provides a unique cultural destination for football fans visiting the city for matches in Group B and Group F.
Beyond commerce, the event highlights the argan tree’s critical role in Morocco’s environmental strategy: Ecosystem Protection: The argan tree is vital for combating desertification and maintaining biodiversity in arid regions. Cooperatives and Empowerment: Nearly 200 booths feature argan-based products, many of which are produced by women’s cooperatives, providing essential income for rural families. Exhibits: Visitors can explore a wide range of products, from culinary and cosmetic argan oils to complex handcrafted creations.
On Monday, Said Amzazi, the Wali of the Souss-Massa region, visited the site to underscore the government’s support for the sector and its integration into Morocco’s broader developmental and sporting milestones.
