A head-on collision between a heavy-goods vehicle and a public transport bus has caused fatalities on National Road 1 (RN1), a major highway in Burkina Faso.
The accident, which claimed at least seven lives, occurred overnight from Sunday, November 30 to Monday, December 1, 2025, approximately five kilometres past the Boromo toll plaza.
The response operation was carried out by Burkina Faso’s National Fire Brigade (BNSP) via its Sixth Fire and Rescue Company, based in Boromo.
The death toll according to the BNSP is heavy: at least seven people were killed in the crash.
Rescuers took charge of 20 injured people, twelve of whom are reported to be in serious condition and eight with minor injuries.
While the exact causes of the incident were sketchy, this accident adds to the long list of recurrent road tragedies in the country.
For the period between August 25 and September 25, 2025, 1,894 accidents were recorded, causing 1,395 injuries and 82 deaths, according to the monthly report published in early October 2025 by the National Road Safety Office (ONASER).
The Fire Brigade strongly urged road users to exercise maximum caution and strictly respect the provisions of the highway code to avoid similar tragedies on the national roads.
