Chairperson of the African Union (AU) Commission Mahmoud Ali Youssouf congratulated Faustin-Archange Touadéré, on his re-election as President of the Central African Republic.
In a statement issued on Monday, Youssouf commended the notable progress achieved by the Central African Republic (CAR), under the leadership of the Head of State, in the areas of security, post-conflict recovery and sustainable economic development.
According to the chairperson, CAR has demonstrated remarkable improvement in the implementation of the Disarmament, Demobilization, Reintegration and Repatriation (DDR/R) process for armed groups, and the redeployment of state authority over an increasing portion of the national territory.
“These progresses form part of the implementation of the political agreement for peace and reconciliation in the country and reflect the determination of its authorities to sustainably consolidate peace and stability,” Youssouf said.
He also congratulated the Central African people for their mobilization and commitment to the political process, demonstrating their resolve to consolidate peace, stability and republican institutions, in line with the aspirations of Agenda 2063 and Silencing the Guns.
The chairperson also encouraged authorities of the country to persevere in their efforts toward the sustainable securing of the entire national territory, the consolidation of a peaceful democracy, and the strengthening of social cohesion and national reconciliation.
He finally reaffirmed the full readiness of the AU Commission to accompany the Central African Republic, in close collaboration with regional and international partners, in support of ongoing efforts and to enable the country to fully realize its potential in the service of peace, development and the well-being of its people.
