A leading diplomatic figure in Chad, Ambassador Ammo Aziza Baroud died on Thursday, June 19.
As Chad’s Permanent Representative to the Francophonie (OIF), she held high-ranking positions in her country, both in government and internationally.
Her death has sparked deep emotion in N’Djamena.
Appointed to this position in September 2023, Ms. Baroud, born in 1965, held numerous political and diplomatic positions. She served as a minister on several occasions between 2003 and 2010, as a member of the National Assembly from 2011 to 2017, and as ambassador to the Benelux countries (2017-2020).
She then represented Chad at the United Nations from 2020 to 2023.
Holding a Master’s degree in Applied Economics from Paris-Dauphine University in 1989, she was elevated to the rank of ambassador by presidential decree in September 2021.
In a message posted on his social media, President Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno, expressed sorrow over the news of her passing.
“Chad has lost in her a committed figure who served her country for many years with dedication and dignity,” he stressed, offering his condolences to the bereaved family.
