The strike by urban transport workers in the city of Ndjamena, which began on Thursday, June 19, has been suspended for 30 days. The action has received a favourable response from the Ministry of Transport.
The urban transport workers’ unions are protesting the exorbitant price of fuel and its scarcity, the multiple checks by the traffic police, the poor condition of the roads, and the lack of dialogue with
the Ministry of Transport.
This suspension is being implemented in a spirit of open consultation, with a view to allowing for continued dialogue and the examination of the concerns raised.
The Ministry of Transport has reaffirmed its willingness to engage in dialogue with all stakeholders in the sector to find lasting solutions in the public interest.
The strike, although lasting only one day paralyzed the city and the economy.
The strike has been a severe blow to low-income households.
