Four people suspected of taking part in an attack on Mining Brigade personnel in Miski, in far northern Chad, have been arrested by defence and security forces, a military official has announced.
Speaking on October 20 on MRTV, a private television channel, Nour Hammad Ahmed Sou, first deputy commander of the Tibesti operational zones, said four suspects had been arrested during a pursuit operation launched following the attack on the Mining Brigade in Miski.
“Ten weapons were recovered from these four individuals, including two bazookas and two sniper-type weapons. The search operation is continuing to apprehend the others,” he said.
The attack, which took place on the afternoon of October 14, targeted Mining Brigade personnel. According to the army, the alleged attackers belong to the Miski self-defence committee, a local militia.
The attack left two officers dead and nine others wounded.
The military official said the forces deployed were determined to restore order in the Tibesti locality, a gold-mining area whose residents fiercely defend their control over the territory.
“The military are determined to bring the situation under control, whatever the cost. Tibesti is an integral part of Chad. The situation will be brought under control,” Nour Hammad Ahmed Sou stressed.
In a statement issued on October 15, 2026, the army had called on the group to lay down its weapons “immediately”, warning that any refusal to comply would be considered “an act of rebellion”. The self-defence committee would be held responsible for the consequences of any failure to comply.
Search operations are continuing to locate the remaining suspects, according to the military command.
